This proposal animates the monumental facade of Widener Library with an equivalent natural force: water. The crashing waves are intended to be simultaneously overpowering and calming. The ocean is dense, unpredictable, rhythmic, powerful, vast, mystifying, invigorating. It's complexity mirrors a student's manifold relationship with the library. The experience of Widener Library as an immense building and as a resource can be overwhelming. One plunges into the endless stacks attempting the navigate the complex network. At the same time the library's vast reserves are truly rewarding, getting lost in the stacks is enriching. The projection will encompass the range of emotions that the building generates. Experiencing the Widener Waves will be distinctly different for every viewer.
