When given the challenge to design an iconic household object, my partner Alexandra Garcia and I bonded over our mutual love of caffeine. Iconic bottles are not a new idea - but there is no beautifully designed, truly spill-proof travel coffee mug on the market. We were inspired by the 1970s Hasbro Weebles toy and sought to design a bottle that would "weeble wobble but never fall down." We wanted our design to be more than a children's toy, so the overall form of our bottle is inspired by the elegant shape of a pear.
If you knock into our bottle it just bobs around.
We imagine bob in a variety of materials, colors and sizes. Bob can be a plastic water bottle, a glass wine carafe or a stainless steel travel coffee mug.
The initial Bob prototype was 3D printed and presented at the Harvard Innovation Lab and the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences Design Fair.
